Current Projects & Initiatives in Gitxsan Lax Yip (Active & Emerging)

  1. Returning Home – Land-Based Healing Framework (Youth & Families)
    Evolved from the Youth Framework Project into a comprehensive community-driven land-based
    healing model. Includes future healing cabins, seasonal ceremonies, and cultural curriculum.
    Collaborative development aligned with GCFSS and KBC priorities.
  2. Prevention – Cultural & Wellness Programming

  1. ROAR Harm-Reduction & Outreach (Hazelton / Kispiox)
    Expanding the Indigenous Boots On The Ground model into northern territory. Includes peer
    navigation, crisis support, cultural harm-reduction, and community outreach. Delivered in
    collaboration with GCFSS, KBC, and local community supports.
  2. Cultural Readiness & Training Development
    Gitxsan-specific cultural readiness training delivered in a five-day intensive format, with additional
    modular training options for future organizations. Supports staff wellness, cultural safety, and
    organizational capacity-building.
  3. Healing & Ceremony Sessions

  • Water healing ceremonies
  • Fire teachings and letter-burning release practices
  • Seasonal teachings and identity strengthening
  • Youth circles (ages 16–27)

  1. Language & Story Work
    Integration of Gitxsanimx into group work and cultural programming, including land-based identity
    teachings such as: “I walk with the ancestors and the next seven generations in my heart.”
    Ongoing collaboration with Knowledge Keepers supports language revitalization.
  2. Expansion of Indigenous Boots On The Ground (ETF Proposal)
    A dual-region operational model serving Kelowna and Hazelton/Gitxsan territories. Focuses on
    community outreach, cultural navigation, peer training, and harm reduction. Designed to bridge
    urban–rural service gaps for Indigenous community members.
